IOTA SHEILD

The History of of Alpha Epsilon Omega

Book of History

Alpha Epsilon Omega was started in 1995 by five brothers who came from various undergraduate chapters across the USA. The brothers wanted to make their mark in the local area and began discussing what could be done in order to improve the presence of IOTA in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill, NC ('Triangle') area, re-experience the strong feeling of brotherhood experienced previously asundergraduate members, and discover new ways to serve the community. Many of the brothers had made personal attempts to reactivate the undergraduate chapters and start new colonies in the Triangle but to no avail.

They knew that the only way they would be recognized at the Alumni level was to work together and form an Alumni Chapter. This was especially important since IOTA was now a part of the Nation Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC). So in August 1997 these brothers formally became the Triangle Alumni Colony of IOTA PHI THETA FRATERNITY INC.

Chapter Charter Members:
Brother Tommy Graves (Iota Ch.)
Brother Kibwe Mudiwa (Upsilon Ch.)
Brother William MacWilliams (Zeta Ch.)
Brother Ted R. Rogers Jr. (Alpha Ch.)
Brother William Wyatt (Beta Theta Ch.)

As they continued to work in the community, they helped revive the presence of IOTA in the area (Alpha Epsilon Chapter: North Carolina Central University) and started new undergraduate chapters (1997 -- Gamma Xi: NC State University, 1998 -- Gamma Tau: Shaw University). They also began to discover other brothers in the area and soon the chapter began to grow. In August of 1999, the Alumni chapter was awarded with their Greek-Letter Designation of ALPHA EPSILON OMEGA.

Alpha Epsilon Omega remains steadfast in its belief that quality service to the community is a major focus of our programmatic thrust.

Chapter Service Activities:
Soup Kitchen: Immanuel Temple SDA Church
Adopt-A-Highway (I-40)
Holiday Canned Food Drive
IOTA Youth Alliance Progam (Watts Elem)
HBCU College Tour

As we continue to grow, our chapter is also focused on new ways to expand our influence throughout the 'Triangle'. Future activities include: Educational, Health, Social Service, and Cultural Forums and a Networking Mixer. We also plan to remain a very active member of the Durham/Chapel Hill NPHC.

In 2005, we were proud to celebrate 10 years of service and brotherhood in the 'Triangle'. In April 2008 at the Inaugural Awards Banquet during the 2008 Eastern Region Regional Conference in Greensboro, NC, Alpha Epsilon Omega was awarded the 1st Alumni Chapter of the Year award.

Today, we look forward to a bright future of membership growth and finding new ways to remain true to IOTA's motto: "Building A Tradition, Not Resting Upon One!"
